10/19/2015 0 Comments Inspired byFor my inspired by portal, i made a mug. https://www.pinterest.com/artofapex/relief/ was the link i used to discover some ideas. I chose to use clay and glaze as my medium because i thought they would work best for a mug i could drink out of. My piece is very unique due to its colors, however i got some ideas for texture from various pieces in the portal. Probably the most successful part of my piece is the texture and designs that i added. I think it adds detail to my piece and makes it look unique. In the future, i might work on smoothing out different parts of the mug.

10/12/2015 0 Comments Picture from around CampusMy groups theme for the pictures we took around campus was wood. I especially liked this picture because there are three different levels shown. The tables, the middle sized book shelves and then finally the taller bookshelves along the back wall. I think this adds dimension to this photo and i can also see how the rule of thirds can play into this picture.
10/9/2015 0 Comments Ink WeekInspired Ink: I decided to draw a handful of flowers for my inspired piece. I saw an ink drawing similar to this that was just a drawing of the flowers. I thought the nails on the hand added a nice pop of color to the piece. I used mostly sharpie pens for this piece, although in some places i shaded in with pencil to add detail. I first drew the flowers and then added on the different stems, and lastly i drew the hand around them. Drawing the hand last was a bit difficult but it ended up looking okay. Zentangle: For my Zentangle piece, i decided to draw the moon and sun together. I found this style of drawing very relaxing, and its fun to let your imagination run. I believe the word "Zen" does match this style because it is a very calming technique. I first sketched the moon and sun together with a pencil wnd then retraced with a sharpie pen. Then, i began adding in the detail to different parts of the sun and moon and lastly i added in some color. Eye: I chose to make an outer space piece. Drawing and eye with ink wasnt as challenging as i was expecting it to be, but it still isnt as easy as pencil. I found the smoothness of the pen to be helpful in drawing specific parts of the eye as well as the rest of the piece. I first drew an alien and drew his "third eye" im order to incorporate an eye into my piece. I then added the planet, UFO, and stars for the background. I was able to use various values in this piece, including the ink brush and different types of ink pens.
10/9/2015 0 Comments Art HistoryThe art movement i had for my project was De Stiji. De Stiji consists of basic elements including geometric shapes and primary colors. The time period of this movement was from 1917-1931in the Netherlands. I saw a piece from my movement that included a lot of squares. I thought i could incorporate Spongebob making different faces into my drawing because he is square too!
10/6/2015 0 Comments Pick 2 (again): Daily MonsterThe second piece i chose for my Pick 2 post was my ink splat creature. I really liked the idea of making something out of nothing. One thing that was challenging was being able to blow the ink with the straw without spraying it on yourself. The long leg like markings reminded me of octopus tentacles, while the top of 2 of them looked like claws. I decided to make a mixture of an octopus and a crab. Then i added some extra details on the outside to add to the background.
10/6/2015 0 Comments Pick two(again): Clay FishFor my pick two post, the first piece i chose was my clay fish. Creating this fish was very fun because it was our first experience using clay in class. I wanted to make my fish look like a girl with an orioles hat on and brown hair which resembles parts of me. It was cool using different tools in order to make different textures. One struggle i came across was not being able to paint every piece of white in indensions once i started using glaze. However, i think it turned out fairly well.
9/17/2015 0 Comments Two in OneI chose to morph a tree and the earth in my piece. I really liked this idea because i believe they depend on each other and they are both very reliant on one another. Also i used the quote "earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal". With this quote, i can think that the earth may be difficult but at the same time it can be beautiful and its all temporary. The most successful part of my painting was probably the earth painted as a tree. I love how the bark and leaves go together. In the future, i may try to incorporate something more into the background of the piece. 8/30/2015 0 Comments Illustration Friday: PeopleThe second picture i chose was the picture i drew for Illustration Friday. I sketched this picture with pencil and then I also added color to the bottom with markers. I got this idea because i thought about how much people are caught up in their relationships with each other. I chose not to color the "people" part of this drawing, to show how we sometimes miss out on many beautiful things in life. It was interesting to be able to draw the different faces for each person. It was also a bit challenging to decide how to fit each person into each letter. However, I was happy with the outcome. 8/28/2015 0 Comments Perspective drawingThe perspective picture i drew was a picture of the hallway. I ran into some problems with leading all of the lines back to one central point, but after a while i got better. It was also a struggle to draw the brick pillars that stick out in the hall. I sketched this with a pencil, and also used a ruler for more percise lines. Overall, i was satisfied with my drawing. |
